This question has been bugging me a lot lately. Do my keywords in the short description of my Google Play Store App rank at all?

Yes, they do.  The 80 characters short description is one of the very first things that you would notice in an app. So it's a must that your copy is good and it is something actionable. It must have all your good keywords in there. Of course, your main keywords should be in the Title (50 characters), you may repeat some in the short description if you really need to rank for it. Be sure also to use the short description to describe your app and its benefits. In short, make it like your CTA, call to action.

Again, Keywords in the short description are being indexed by Google, so you’ll rank on them. So choose wisely. Use an ASO keyword tool and consider these factors:

Relevancy, Search Score, and Competition. Look for keywords that are relevant to you app that has a good search score and low to medium competition.

If it is in the app title already, you may still use it to strengthen your case. Some prefer not to use it as it’s kind of redundant but it's your call. For me, I use some on both of those fields.

You may also want to mention these keywords in the long description – based on my research, Google puts more weight on the title, then on the short description, then on the long description, when it comes to indexing and ranking your keywords for search. Mentioning your keywords in both long and short description will inform Google that you really want to rank high for these keywords.

Conclusion

Using keywords in Google Play's short description can help you in your app's search rankings. But please bear in mind that you need to do a lot of research, experimenting, and testing to determine which works best for you. Remember keyword rankings don’t always translate into more downloads.

So, rank well mate! Choose the right keywords that really matters!
